In Natural Skin Care Products

As a consumer, you have more than enough skin care products to choose from. However, there are a limited amount of natural skin care products on the market. And what can be even more frustrating, a lot of the “natural” labeled skin care products are far from being fully natural and healthy for your skin. Here at Avanti Rx, when we say our natural skin care products are all-natural, we mean it. Our products were developed by our very own physician, Dr. D, who has gone to great-lengths to ensure that our products are 100 percent plant and mineral based. While most people may consider using natural skin care products because using them seems better for the environment and probably better for their skin, you may want to consider the switch to natural skin care products for health-related reasons.

How Are Skin Care Products Affecting My Health?

If you are using over-the-counter skin care products, it is likely that they contain multiple additives and chemicals that can adversely affect your health. Today, we’d like to discuss the most common additives and chemicals found in over-the-counter skin care products and how they can negatively impact you.

Mercury

Some skin creams contain mercury, which has the ability to damage the brain, kidneys, and liver. If you have enough exposure to mercury, over time, it can even affect your central nervous system. Using skin care products that contain mercury may increase your risk of neurotoxicity and even nephrotic syndromes, which can cause your body tissue to swell, produce high blood pressure, and increase the likelihood for red blood cells to be present in urine.

Parabens

Parabens, often labeled as isobutylparaben, butylparaben, methylparaben, and propylparaben, can be found in multiple skin care products, such as moisturizers, creams, makeup products, and more. Parabens contain estrogen-like properties, and researchers have found the presence of parabens in tumors linked to breast cancer.

Cocamidopropyl Betaine

This synthetic can be found in numerous skin care products, and it is used because of its tendency to only cause mild skin irritation compared to other synthetics, however, most people find that they are sensitive to this chemical. This chemical has been linked to skin sensitivities and rashes.

Mineral Oil

While mineral oil may sound like a natural additive, when something is labeled “mineral oil,” the oil is usually obtained from petroleum. Using petroleum derived mineral oils can lead to skin irritation, allergies, and it may even block pores. Researchers have also found possible links between mineral oil and arthritis.

Triethanolamine

This chemical, also known as TEA, adjusts the pH level of numerous skin care products. TEA is thought to be linked to skin and eye irritation. The use of TEA may cause your skin to dry and you also may experience allergic reactions.

Lanolin

Lanolin is extracted from sheep’s wool, and it can be found in creams and lotions. Lanolin is actually poisonous when ingested, and its use can even cause nausea, along with redness and rashes on your skin.

While the list we’ve provided highlights commonly used additives and chemicals for skin care products, this list is not all-inclusive, and there are many more additives and chemicals that are often found in skin care products. The other additives and chemicals that we have not gone over also have many adverse effects when it comes to your body and your health.
